Tomorrow, Lauren will be going back to school for two days. I am still a little concerned about her cough. It seems to get worse the more she runs around and is active. Alex is still home, I think. He has more problems than she does with the cough. I know they are not contagious as far as the ear infections and strep throat, but the cold that started it all is still hanging around and do I want to share? I think not. Spring Break is coming up and that means hunting for fun things to do at a low cost. I think we will pull out all the crafts materials that we have and have a good time making a mess. Thank goodness for hardwood floors!! Just sweep and mop. I was going to go to bed early tonight. But..... Lauren wanted some mommy time, just us playing; and then the computer sucked me in and so here it is 10:15 and I am still going.

I had to convince the doctor to see Alex today as well as Lauren. It was just as well because Alex has strep throat and Lauren has a double ear infection. They were so good as we had to wait almost an hour to see the doctor. The hard part is keeping them away from each other and the rest of the family. Spring Break is coming up and wouldn't that be a yucky to spend the week?
It looks like we are going to miss Open House. Great! Today when I went to pick up Lauren's homework, her teacher asked me if we had ever considered skipping a grade with her. There is so much to consider with that. I know she could handle the work, but what about the age difference with her peers? She would be a second grader with third graders. I am not sure that would be the best choice for her.We might just continue to supplement her from home with activities, etc. For example, I showed her the picture on my blog and told her that it showed a poem from one of my favorite authors, Robert Frost. When she asked me to tell her the poem, I showed her the book I had that had his complete works. She read the poem and I defined some words for her. She then said "Oh, I get it!" When I questioned her thinking, "yeah, right" she said it was about making choices and not choosing the same thing as everyone else. That's correct, by the way. I am constantly amazed by her every day.
Clark had the third interview with a company today and the next step is an all day meeting with company executives. His current job is giving him grief about taking time off but its not like he doesn't have his blackberry with him 24/7! They even wake him up at night. When he visited his grandmother in Tennessee, he had to drive to find a wireless connection to answer an email from work. She was not amused. At 93, she does expect him to spend time with her!! Go figure!!
A friend of mine gave me a great gift today. There was a version on The Wizard of Oz on TV not too long ago called The Tin man. I really enjoyed it and she picked one up for me when she bought her own. It was very sweet of her to remember me like that. It is good to have friends like that. Another friend of mine called Monday to see if I needed any help getting kids to school as I was feeling ill myself. She has a full time job and two kids of her own and yet thought of me. It makes you feel loved.
I am off to bed and will see you tomorrow.

Let's Segue into Spring.....
Hello to all!!
My sister's friend Julie, whose blog you can link to from mine, is a very together mother of 7 who does a very neat thing almost daily. I thought I would try it and sees what happens. I am not going to say I will do it daily, but we will see what happens.
Beauty in the Common Things: nap time
Listen In: the hum of the dryer, Alex trying to sing himself to sleep

Today I Plan To: do the dishes, clean up Lauren's room
View From the Front Window: the sun has just briefly broken through the clouds.
Lauren has been home since last Monday with a cough, congestion and an on/off fever. Alex has decided he felt left out and now he has it as well. Lauren woke up complaining of her ear hurting. Our doctor is out all week and I had to push for an appointment for her. I have been treating the symptoms and now I think it has gone into an ear infection. The earliest time I could get in to see someone is tomorrow at 10:30. It is a little frustrating to follow all the instructions and then when you KNOW that your child needs more from a doctor to be told that they are too busy. GRRR! Heather is looking for another job and is considering going to the University of North Texas for the fall. We have pulled Alex from morning pre-k to afternoon and I think it is going well. It will give me more time to spend with just him and work on his letters, etc. Aaron has just signed up for next year's classes. He is planning on taking all four pre-AP classes as well as a technologies class. He goes on a history field trip over spring break that has him visiting several museums in the area. That seems to be all that is going on. Girl Scouts keeps up and baseball is beginning. Hopefully I'll get back to you sooner than a month.

By the way...
Did I forget to tell you about the evening spent at the hospital while one of Leslie's sons got staples for the gash in his head? That was on top of the baseball parent meeting and the Girl Scout community meeting. "c" is fine and as rowdy as ever,but I think that Leslie is looking for a whole lot of bubble wrap...
Long time, No blog...
It has been a while. The end of one year and the beginning on the next are always VERY busy for my family. September starts the ball slowly for us. My brother's anniversary is in September.
Festivities begin to pick up in October. Heather's birthday, my neice's birthday, my sister's anniversary, her and her husband's birthdays, and let's not forget the Fall Carnival at the school. Halloween is in there as well. I always have good intentions about costumes for the kids. We try to have a theme. One year Aaron was a knight, Lauren was a princess (of course!) and Alex was a baby dragon (which was also perfect). Another year, Aaron and Alex were two of the Musketeers and Lauren was a princess. Hmm.. I sense a pattern. This past year Alex was a bat and Lauren was ... a fairy princess. Aaron stayed home and handed out candy because Clark had to work late. We then go through the candy and set aside about one fourth to keep and put out the rest for the Halloween witch to trade in for books and toys.
Next comes November. Our anniversary is the 6th. Then there is Thanksgiving and the after Thanksgiving sales. This month is not so bad.
December is the crazy Christmas month. There are parties at school and gifts for teachers to say nothing of the family. New Year's is always good for a late night.
January starts out with my and my Mom's birthdays. Then there is my nephew's birthday and my friend's son's on the same day as Clark's. The month ends with Alex's birthday. The Super Bowl is here as well.
February has my parent's annversay, Lauren's birthday, my brother's and his wife's birthdays. Don't forget school Valentine's parties and for the family.
I think that gives you a general idea of my world the last few months.
But now, let's be specific. Alex turned FIVE this year. It was hard for me. I really remember him being so little just a few weeks ago. We had a Safari party. We made a tree out of crumbled paper sacks on the post in my front room. We also had a cave made from wardrobe boxes. Yea, Clark and Aaron. The kids made binoculars from toilet paper rolls and we went on a safari to find stuffed animals to collect stickers in our field journals. My friend made the cake to look like a mountain with a stream and everything. There were cupcakes that had wild animals on them. It was very loud and crazy and a lot of fun.
Lauren had a Pixie Hollow party. For those of you who don't know about Pixie Hollow, this is where Tinker Bell lives with her fairy friends. The jungle tree became the Pixie home tree with a little fabric and silk flowers throw in. We made wings for the fairies and vests for the sparrow men. (boy fairies who take care of bugs and stuff). My same friend made a sheet cake that looked like it had Pixie Hollow on it right down to the tree.
Tomorrow is Valentine's Day and Alex has a party. I think that I will help his teacher to make handprint valentines in the shape of "I love you" in sign language. These are so neat. The next day is Lauren's party and I have been asked to bring sandwiches. I think that I am going to cut them out in the shape of hearts.
In the meantime, Heather has been working a whole lot as well as taking classes and playing hockey. We hardly get to see her anymore.
Aaron is working on a paper for the History Fair about whether or not the Alamo could have been won. I am very impressed with the work he has done.
I am going to go before the next school board meeting to talk about what our school district is doing or not doing for the children who are color blind. I am very frustrated by the responses I am getting from the administration.
Clark continues to work long hard hours and is looking for another position. He is on the Little League board as well as coaching Aaron's team. Lauren has decided to take ballet this year instead of baseball. Thank you, Barbie.
I think that brings you up to date with my world. Now I am falling into bed.... o.k after one more load of laundry and dishes, getting backpacks ready for school, finding both shoes in the pair, covering kids back up and making sure that Alex is not sleeping on Aaron. Then maybe bed!!

Surprise!
I have yet to finish catching up due to really a bad migraine. I woke up this morning to such pain that I let the kids stay home without much of a fight. They were all feeling a little under the weather due to all the wind, and we just took it easy. I helped a friend get the battery for her car replaced and took all the cookies that I had left to my brother to sell at his work. Lauren has sold 252 cookies as of today and this weekend we have table top sales as well as asking for a case of each type to sell around the neighborhood. She is doing so very good! The rest of my week has been a blur so good luck getting more info.
Please watch my sister's blog to hear about her boys' drama. O.K., I'll tell you. It seems that Leslie had asked little c to pick up the phone in one room and bring it to her. Somehow he handed it to j and went to Leslie in the other room while j spoke to Leslie on to extension. When little c came into the bedroom, Leslie gave the other phone to him so he could talk to j on the extension. Little c tells j that he and Daddy had gone to the office today. J gets really upset that c and C got to go to the office without him even though c had JUST handed him the phone. Leslie cannot explain to j what is going on because she is laughing so hard, He just didn't get it!!

Catching up
It has been a while for me. I know that I said that I would be the one to keep up. When you hear what has been going on, you will understand.
Lets's work backwards.......
Teacher Appreciation lunch I watched Lauren's class and we had a blast. We watched a movie about Ponds and Rivers, we made a surprise for the teacher, I had printed off several activities from Crayola.com ( this is a great free website), and I read two books. The kids were very good. Alex stayed home because of a cough from his allergies. The wind is VERY strong here the past few days and it has really kicked a lot of stuff up. Lauren fell while trying to escape a spanking for yelling at me and hit her head on the floor. Both of them received allergy meds and Lauren had to take some Motrin. We read books and they went to bed. Clark is helping a friend of mine put in her baseboards before the leasing agent comes tomorrow. He is such a sweatheart (pun intended). I have had a migraine since Sunday and I am hoping it will go away soon. A week is the longest that I have had one and I ended up in bed.
Yesterday I met my brother to give him some Girl Scout cookies that he is getting orders for at his work. Lauren had sold about 220 boxes. Yea, her!! I helped my friend clean her house for the above mentioned leasing agent visit.
Monday was Alex's 5th birthday. He opted for apples and cheese istead of cupcakes for his class. I hunted school supplies for Aaron and his new Spanish class. Do you know that you cannot find a pencil bag unless you go to an office supply store? I had a gift card at Target and I ended up spening it on the kids. I told Alex that if he had a good day at school, he could have a pirate something. He told me today that he did not have a bad day at school today so he could get a pirate toy. I explained to him that he had to actually go to school and have a good day before he could get his surprise. But you can't blame the boy for trying! Monday night was the Girl Scout recruitment at Lauren's school, so we were there. We actually sold 5 boxes of cookies that night. Yea, Lauren!! That afternoon we spent the entire time playing with his two cousins who will be 5 in April. It is hard to think of him being so old!
Sunday I recovered from Alex's Safari party. We went to church and the kids went to Sunday school. We came home and Lauren, Aaron and I went to see Alvin and The Chipmonks at the theater. It was cute! That night, we watched part of a Jeff Dunham DVD. Aaron was laughing until he could not breathe.
Saturday was the party. Alex chose a Safari theme. I need to post some pictures when I finally get them developed. We had a tree and a cave and binoculars and a safari hunt with a field journal. We had soo much noise! My friend made the cake in the shape of a mountain with 24 of the biggest cupcakes I have ever seen. Each one had a jungle animal on it. Clark and Aaron made a fantabulous cave that stood for several days. I spent the last few minutes looking foa a tiger and zebra. My parents helped tremendously!! Without their help, I could not have had this done in time.
I find that I am falling asleep at the keyboard, so I will finish this tomorrow....
